Cobalt Systems is pleased to confirm its return to the PPMA TOTAL Show 2025, where it will demonstrate its latest innovations in automated print and apply labelling, with a strong focus on Linerless labelling technology.

Held at the NEC Birmingham from 23rd to 25th September 2025, PPMA TOTAL is the UK’s largest processing and packaging machinery exhibition. As a longstanding exhibitor, Cobalt will once again use the show as a platform to present new technology and practical automation tools for UK manufacturers across food and beverage, pharmaceutical, logistics, and general manufacturing sectors.

This year, visitors to Stand B72 will be among the first to see live demonstrations of Cobalt’s NEW Linerless Print and Apply solutions, part of the company’s modular NEXUS20 range. Designed and built in the UK, the Linerless systems print, cut, and apply labels of varying lengths, all from a single reel of Linerless media.Linerless media has an impregnated thermal reactive coating, protected by a silicone top service, creating long life durable print and a natural release coat that enables the paper to be wound on itself, negating the need for a silicone liner and a print ribbon. Available in 4” and 6” widths, this sustainable approach allows manufacturers to reduce waste, streamline label inventory, and benefit from twice the label yield compared to standard linered rolls.

“Linerless technology is gaining momentum across the UK industry and we’re proud to be leading the way with our proven, reliable systems that are available with a full range of application tools,” said Tony Hunt, Managing Director at Cobalt Systems. “The PPMA TOTAL Show offers the perfect opportunity to see this capability up close and understand how it can support both operational efficiency and sustainability targets.”

Cobalt’s Linerless solutions will be shown alongside its wider NEXUS20 range, including a case sealing and labelling solution, ideal for streamlining end of line packaging operations. This compact printer applicator with integrated case sealer can be wheeled in and out of line, streamlining end of line packaging and easy integration into existing factory infrastructure.

In addition, Cobalt will showcase its Sentinel machine vision and barcode validation technologies including the Omron V275 Series, providing integrated print quality inspection. Additionally, the print and apply demonstration machinery will feature Industrial Automation options from Zebra Technologies, including Fixed Industrial Scanners to enable automated barcode tracking across fast-moving production lines.

“Beyond labelling, we’re helping customers take bigger steps into intelligent automation and data capture,” added Hunt. “What you’ll see at our stand reflects the real-world challenges engineering and operations managers are trying to solve, including traceability, waste reduction, system reliability, and compliance.”

With carbon neutrality and sustainability high on the agenda for many UK manufacturers, Cobalt’s Linerless print and apply systems offer a low-waste, UK-made solution that aligns with net-zero ambitions. All Cobalt machines are designed and manufactured in the company’s facility in Cheshire. Cobalt has retained ISO9001 accreditation since 2012 and the company has been certified as a carbon neutral business since 2023.
