Keep pallet identification accurate as lines converge

Sentinel SSCC manages pallet identification in end-of-line environments where products from multiple production lines feed into shared wrapping or labelling equipment.

It carries the production information needed to generate the correct SSCC at the labelling point, keeping pallet identification and traceability accurate through to dispatch.

Simplify complex SSCC labelling

SSCC labelling becomes more difficult when pallets from several production lines share the same end-of-line equipment. The system needs to know exactly which product has arrived, where it came from and which information belongs against its unique SSCC.

Sentinel SSCC carries that production data with the product, allowing the correct pallet information to be called up when it reaches the wrapping or labelling point.

The same software can support manual, semi-automated and fully automated environments, giving manufacturers a route to scale the process over time.

Manage multiple line feeds

Keep pallet identity accurate as products from different production lines converge.

Automate SSCC labelling

Use production information to generate the correct pallet labels at the point they are needed.

Connect with business systems

Exchange SSCC and production information with SAP and wider operational systems.

Strengthen traceability

Link each pallet with the batch, line and product information behind it.

Sentinel SSCC in practice

Multiple line, shared pallet handling

Cobalt first developed the Smart SSCC approach for a large food manufacturer based in the North West of the UK. The solution allows for allets from multiple production lines to pass through a shared wrapping and labelling equipment.

Line-specific information is carried within a 2D code on the case label. Sentinel reads that information at the wrapper, assigns the SSCC, produces the matching pallet labels, verifies them and receipts the completed event back into SAP.

Coordinated shared pallet labelling

Cobalt delivered a similar many-to-one system for a large beverage manufacturer, coordinating pallet identification where multiple production streams fed shared end-of-line equipment.

Smart SSCC data and SAP integration kept the correct production information linked with each pallet throughout the process.

Semi-automated pallet labelling

Sentinel SSCC can also bring the same control to sites where pallets are wrapped and labelled manually.

The operator scans the 2D code carried on the case and Sentinel calls the correct SSCC information to the printer beside the wrapper. The labels can then be applied manually, removing the need for the operator to search for and select the correct pallet data.

How Sentinel SSCC works

Carries production data with the product

A 2D code carries the line-specific information needed later in the pallet-labelling process.

Reads the information at end of line

At the wrapping or labelling point, Sentinel captures the relevant batch, line and product information.

Assigns the SSCC

The correct SSCC is generated and linked with the production data for that pallet.

Produces and checks the labels

The matching pallet labels are produced and, in automated installations, applied and verified.

Updates connected systems

Once the pallet has been correctly identified, the completed event can be receipted back into SAP or other production systems.
